As a proud Baltimorean, I must admit to having a love/hate relationship with the city I call home. I love visiting the National Aquarium or Baltimore Zoo with the boy. Love exploring new brunch spots with Kevin or just relaxing in my own backyard. I hate travelling and upon hearing I’m from Baltimore being asked if it’s really like The Wire (maybe?), how far I live from where the rioting occurred (not far), and do I feel safe (absolutely!). I’m tired of the look as Litsa at What’s Your Grief calls it, one of pity and concern when strangers learn of my hometown. I promise, it’s okay.
Understand that living in Baltimore City was a conscious decision. Kevin travels all over the state appraising high value homes. We could have just as easily transplanted our family to the burbs, and nothing against the burbs, but my heart is in Baltimore. I could not claim to love this city then flee when it needs me the most. I truly believe you become the difference you want to see and I didn’t believe I could be that difference from afar. So here we are.
There is so much to see and do in Baltimore, it oftentimes is overlooked, especially by those of us that live here. More importantly, I want to share the sights and sounds with those of you that don’t live here. I want you to be better informed about my city, not just the bad things, but the good things as well. And trust me, there is plenty of good to go around.
