Hey Glam Gals! Thrifting Thursday is upon us and I can’t wait to share this week’s find with you.
If you follow me on Instagram, you might recall this past weekend I attended a local flea market. I hadn’t planned on attending, actually knew nothing about it, but a good friend texted me the information, and why not? I hadn’t seen her in a long time, flea markets are a perfect place to find furniture for painting and it would make a good way for the boy to burn off some energy. So to the flea market we went!
There were tons of vendors selling everything, from Happy Meal toys to stained glass windows. There was something for everyone. Guess I should have taken a few pictures, but life as a blogger is still new to me, so just take my word for it. Well, as we’re walking, I see a rather large setup. I notice it’s mostly furniture, so I walk over. What they have a ton of are chairs; all types of chairs. One chair in particular caught my attention. It was nothing fancy, wooden back and base with a fabric seat. Plain but cute, add some paint and a pretty cushion and she’d be a beauty. I’m looking to add upholstering to my list of skills so I figured that chair would be a good place to start. Several older ladies were managing the sales, and long story short, I purchased the chair for $5! I was over the moon happy.
So this is where I unveil my fabulous find, right? WRONG!
Not wanting to roll the chair around the festival and because I had KJ, who would not have been keen on all the back and forth, I asked if they would hold the chair for me. They agreed, and we went on our merry way. I bought a few smaller items, gave KJ $3 to spend which he enjoyed thoroughly, and then we began to make our way back to pick up the chair and head home. Well as we’re approaching, guess what I see being wheeled in my direction? MY CHAIR! The lady that sold me the chair had no recollection of our transaction and offers to refund my $5. Insert sad face.
I spent the rest of the day trying to find a better bargain, anything comparable. A few items came close, but nothing was quite right. And so another mild obsession was born. I spent the rest of that day, and the next dipping in and out of goodwill and a few antique stores. Of course I checked craigslist too, and that is where I finally found today’s beautiful surprise.
I really wasn’t looking for something for myself, just something I could reupholster to get my feet wet, so to speak. But when I saw this, I could not pass it up. It’s perfect for what will one day be my office.
The scroll detail screams Glamour Girl, and I’m thinking I’ll either paint or stain the wood a little darker, and reupholster the back and cushion. White leather would look nice, but not sure it’s pretty enough. Besides my closet, my office is the only other space I want to scream ME, so it has to be perfect. But none of that is in the immediate future. For now, this PYT will sit quietly in the office until my skills catch up to its beauty.
And there you have it. Would I have found this had I not missed out on the other chair? Not sure. But am I glad I have this one instead? Definitely!
Hope you’re inspired to go out and find your beautiful surprise, and please, share it with me at #thriftingwithpaige
