To tell the story of my first furniture makeover is to begin the story of Ana’s room. If you recall, Ana is my free spirited gypsy child. For the past two years, her room has been void of all personality, an absolute tragedy in her mind, but I just didn’t have it in my mind, and so I held off until it came to me. She expressed interest in a bohemian themed room, so being the over thinker/achiever that I am, I looked up all the design ideas I could find . . . eh, they helped a little.
Bohemian is so subjective, so random . . . so not how my mind works. The patterns don’t match, furniture oftentimes doesn’t match and if you’re not careful, it can look cluttered and unkempt; not the look I was going for at all, and so I decided to go rogue. Boho is all about freedom from the rules after all, so I jumped into the deep end headfirst. I had a color scheme in mind and painted the walls a vibrant blue. I knew I wanted an orange dresser, but not just any dresser. It had to have a certain look, the right curves, it had to be perfect and I couldn’t find it anywhere.
I searched the internet high and low, and the only place I saw something even similar to what I wanted was a DIY makeover. So yeah, I decided to try it and that led me here:
What a beauty! Look at the curves, the detail and the hardware. This was the real deal. The only thing that could have made it totally perfect would have been claw feet, so see, I do settle sometimes. It took a great deal of energy and effort to to get it into my truck and I was so glad Kevin came with me. Once I got home I couldn’t wait to inspect my new find.
Honestly, it was in pristine condition. I couldn’t have asked for better. Of course I didn’t know then I’d be blogging, otherwise I would have taken more pictures, but the manufacturer plate on the inside still had the protective plastic on it. What can I say, I lucked up! The entire process took about a week. Every evening I worked on it, and while I’m sure I made numerous mistakes, Ana’s carpet can attest to that, I had fun and the finished project far exceeded my expectations.
